Nine of our wrestlers attending were first year AND had never wrestled in a tournament before. Ten of our wrestlers took 1st Place (Joey Bertrand, David Bertrand, Jack Brierley, Pete Carlson, Jac Carlson, Josh Carlson, Jeremiah Collier, Kyle Denney, Jayce Frady, Dawson Winters). Nine of our wrestlers took 2nd Place (Jake Williams, Marty Sheehan, Ethan Jewett, Gavin Horne, Jordan Hinton, Jonathan Hammond, Matthew Guest, Jackson Denney, Jacob Bedsole). Marty Sheehan and Gavin Horne were two of the nine first year wrestlers with no prior tournament experience that placed. Thanks to the Carlson boys (Pete, Jac, Josh) and Bertrand boys (Joey, David) for accounting for 15 or almost 30% of our wins.

Dunwoody Patch Story on Nava/Breffle Wrestling Club

The Dunwoody Patch published a story on the Nava/Breffle Wrestling Club on January 2, 2011. Don't be alarmed about references to capacity issues, coaching shortages, and future caps on club membership. We are committed to introducing the sport of wrestling to as many area kids as we can. We are humbled by our growth but optimistic about the future. We are confident that we will find ways to develop our returning wrestlers into future champions as well as offer an introduction to wrestling to all that are interested.

In preparation for the state tournament, Josh and Jac Carlson entered the Northview open tournament. Both are second wrestlers and went up against Georgia's best -- opponents with a lot more experience. Both wrestled well and learned what it is going to take it to achieve the next level. Congratulations to Jac Carlson for taking second place.

Tournament Results - January 8th

Five Nava/Breffle wrestlers joined forces with four Dunwoody High School junier varsity wrestlers to compete in the Carl Wright Memorial Tournament at St. Pius. This was the toughest competition yet for our young wrestlers who went head to head with middle schoolers who often were several grades their senior. Our Nava/Breffle wrestler ended up combining for 3 wins and eight losses. Congratulations to Josh Carlson who took the only medal with 4th place.
